Have you ever thought that maybe you are an eclectic person?

It may sound strange, but I have never realised that I am an eclectic person. I mean, I never said it to myself, just like I say that I am too stubborn. All I knew was that I had too many things I was interested in. I wanted to learn this, and this, and that, and also something else. When I was still in school, I used to go to the library and take books about totally different topics. There were times when I was interested in sports, times when I wrote lyrics or poems, and times when I put a lot of effort into learning about stock market trading. Many of my interests don’t even fit each other. At some point, it’s all general. We all search for ourselves, especially as teenagers. We try to set boundaries. Try new things, hobbies, styles, and activities. Usually, it changes with time and we calm down. Not the eclectic ones.

You’re not complicated, just eclectic.

How do you know that you are an eclectic person?

If you’re not a teenager any more who’s trying to figure out who you are, but you still have a lot of different hobbies, you’re probably an eclectic person. Being eclectic is not exactly about how you dress or make-up. It can be, but that’s not the only reason why you are or aren’t eclectic. Being passionate about different things is the key. To love a bit of everything. They say that friendships are based on common interests or similar opinions. If you are an eclectic person, you probably have friends, who may not even know each other. Not because they live in different towns or even different countries, but because they are interested in different things, and it wouldn’t be possible to make a programme where all of them would enjoy themselves. The programmes you make with one friend are not an option with another. I had this experience.

Is it good to be an eclectic person?

Being an eclectic person is good. For you. Though it can be too much for the people around you.

It’s amazing to always find something new you want to learn or try. It never gets boring. Actually, it is exciting. You feel this is how life works. In the same time, a lot of people don’t like changes or new situations. A lot of people want things to be settled, because that’s how they feel safe. When they find the hobby to make them relaxed, they stick to it. A lot of them will be professionals. You, in the same time, may spend a lot of money on photography courses or equipment this year, and instead of becoming a full time photographer and “settling down,” you may find something else next year. But the thing is, you never drop photography. It will always be your love. One of them. Besides all the others. If you are like this, you probably heard the question “When will you grow up?” too many times. People may judge you and say that you never finish anything. They say, you don’t know what you want. They don’t understand, but of course you know what you want. A bit of everything.

If you recognise yourself, just go on. It is you. Be eclectic, enjoy life, learn, and try. Live and experience, but don’t expect others to understand you. Acceptance and respect are enough. For all of us. That sounds like love.
